What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that provide a permanent and appealing solution for replacing missing or damaged teeth. Unlike bridges, implants require no alteration of surrounding teeth, making them a conservative and long-lasting option.

Benefits of Dental Implants:

Dental implants offer many benefits beyond restoring your smile. They help preserve facial structure, preventing bone loss in the jaw. They also improve comfort, as implants are part of you, and eliminate the discomfort of removable dentures. With their natural appearance, they boost self-esteem, and because they are designed to fuse with bone, they become permanent. Dental implants are a great solution for patients of all ages, except for children, and can be the perfect choice for anyone missing one, multiple, or all of their teeth due to injury, defects, disease, or decay.

Implant Dentistry

The Best Type of Implant for You

Our clinic offers three types of dental implants to cater to your unique needs:

  • Single Tooth Dental Implants: This option is ideal for those missing a single tooth. The implant replaces the root of the missing tooth, providing a foundation for a custom-made crown.
  • Multiple Teeth Dental Implants: If you’re missing several teeth, multiple tooth implants can be an ideal solution. Depending on your needs, a series of individually placed implants or an implant-supported bridge could be used.
  • Full Arch Dental Implants: For patients missing all their teeth in the upper or lower arch, full arch dental implants can restore functionality and aesthetics. This procedure often involves placing several implants and attaching a full denture for optimal results.

General Procedure:

While each patient’s case is different, the process of getting implants requires several stages. First is the initial consultation and examination. Next, the dental implant, made of titanium, is surgically placed into the jawbone. Over the next 3-6 months, the implant and jawbone fuse together in a process called osseointegration. During this healing time, temporary crowns can be placed so that you can eat and speak normally and maintain a proper aesthetic appearance for your smile.

Once healed, an abutment is attached to the implant, which will hold your new tooth. Finally, a custom-made crown is placed over the abutment.

We use either Neo biotech implant or Osstem implant. They are both renowned Korean companies.

We normally use screw type implants. Generally there are three parts to them. Those three parts of implant tooth are: fixture – abutment – crown

Below is the general treatment sequence for dental implants at Star Dental

  1. Exam and x-ray – if the patient needs gum treatments, it has to be done first.
  2. Fixture placement surgery, followed by dressing and suture removal
  3. 3-6 months of bone healing
  4. Second surgery for abutments (sometimes, first and second surgery could be done on the same day), followed by dressing and suture removal
  5. Digital scan for implant crown fabrication
  6. Crown seating
  7. Follow up Crown adjustment

While the dental implant process is costly and can take many months of your time, it’s a worthwhile investment in your oral health and a smile that can last a lifetime.

Cost is between $3500 to $5500 NZD for each tooth (depending on the bone graft surgery or sinus surgery needs).
